Samuel Penderbayne is an Australian composer and performer, living and working in Hamburg, Germany. He holds degrees from Sydney and Munich, is a Doctoral Fellow at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Hamburg and a student of Prof. Moritz Eggert and Prof. Fredrik Schwenk. Engagements include: the Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Tasmanian symphony orchestras in Australia; Arditti Quartet, Ensemble Oktopus, The Breakout Ensemble, Sirius Quartet and Asian Art Ensemble in Germany; stage-music (theater, dance) for Schauspielhaus Frankfurt, Prinzregententheater Munich, Theater Bremen and film music for the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen, Munich.
He is currently working on a chamber opera with librettist Helmut Krausser for the Hamburg State Opera (Opera Sabile: premiere early-2018).
Apart from composition, Samuel is an active vocalist (tenor), conductor (orchestral, choral, chamber) and electronic musician. In his work, Samuel seeks to enrich the classical technique with influences from non-classical genres including electronic-, world-, rock- and jazz-music.
