Composer and flutist Thuridur Jónsdóttir has a considerable output of both orchestral and chamber music. The concert experience, comprising the acoustics of the concert hall, has often been a primary concern for her. This concern is reflected in different ways in the works, e.g. by the use of electronic sounds or multimedia, theatrical elements, field recordings or through audience participation. Her works are often developed in close collaboration with the performer but at the same time informed by a firm conceptual basis and a resulting preparatory phase of reflection where the sound, energy and rhythms of the work are forged, the outcome often being technically demanding but clear. Thuridur studied composition in Italy but is now based in Reykjavík where she has dedicated her self to composition, flute playing and musical instruction.
