Siegfried Kutterer, studied classical percussion in Basel, Switzerland. Since 1977, he is a member of the Basel Symphony Orchestra. He became a member oft the Basel Percussion Ensemble conducted by Paul Sacher. Kutterer played in different ensembles which performed exclusively contemporary music, including many works they had commissioned. In 2008 he founded the Percussion Band „DeciBells with whom he had concerts in the majer European Music centres as well as tours in India, China, Argentina and Taiwan. Siegfried Kutterer has a great interest in music from outside Europe. He attended seminars on Indian music with Professor Hans Oesch at the Institute of musicology at the University of Basel. In Chennai, India, he studied Mridangam and the theory of the South Indian carnatic classical music with Sri T.V. Gopalkrishnan. Inspired by his rich experience and knowledge of Indian and Balinese music, Siegfried Kutterer began to compose himself. The result has been works strongly influenced by his experiences with other cultures. His works get published by Verlag Neue Musik Berlin and are performed worlwide by wellknown soloists and ensembles.
