Roger Hanschel

Home / Composers / Roger Hanschel

Roger Hanschel is a musician with a wide range of expressive possibilities.
Along with his quartet, Roger Hanschels Heavy Rotation and groups such as the Kölner Saxofon-Mafia, or Triosphere, he has distinguished himself in a variety of chamber music contexts such as in a duo with singer Gabriele Hasler, with his music for saxophone and string quartet, or in collaboration with musicians from the Ensemble Modern, and the Auryn Quartet and also as a soloist.
In recent years he has also worked frequently as a guest soloist, often in the Norwegian Wind Ensemble or the NDR Big Band.
Hanschel composes far from the mainstream and at the height of the times like few others. He exemplifies the same intelligent-integrative agility as a performing musician on the Nowadays Mike produces music successfully and apart from his activities as a live musician he also writes music for films and other media.
saxophone as he does as a composer. What first catches ones attention is the lightness with which Hanschel succeeds in blending the sound of his saxophone with the homogeneous sound of a string quartet, or the voice of Gabriele Hasler, depending on the situation in which he is playing. It is a matter here of a way of playing that is more similar to a classical musician of the French school than to a North American saxophone player.
You can hear his compositions and perform-ances on over 40 LPs / CDs.
