From 1990 Peter Thilloy studied composition at the Nancy Conservatory with Jean-Pierre Rivière and Noël Lancien and continued his studies with Alexander Mullenbach at the Conservatory of Luxembourg and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. He studied 20th century musical aesthetics with Mario di Bonnaventura.
He was a laureate of the Concours Général en Musique in 1990, won second prize at the International Olivier Messiaen Competition in 1998, the silver medal of the Société Académique des Arts, Sciences et Lettres in 2005 and the Grand Prix des Arts of the Académie Ausone in 2009.
From 2003 to 2005 he lived in Baku at the invitation of the French Embassy, where many of his works were performed and he gave master classes in composition. He is artistic director of the Éditions Musicales de La Salamandre and the Festival La Nuit des Musiciens in Paris and since 2006 professor of composition and orchestration at the Nancy Conservatory.
Tholloy's catalog raisonné includes more than 150 compositions, including symphonic works, choral and chamber music, and a children's opera.
