Matthias S. Krüger was born in Rottweil. He studied composition with York Höller, Frédéric Durieux, Georg Friedrich Haas and Eric Oña, conducting and piano studies in Cologne, Paris (CNSMDP, IRCAM), Frankfurt/M. and Basel. Numerous master classes for conducting and composition, including in 2011 the session de composition Voix Nouvelles of the Fondation Royaumont with Brian Ferneyhough, Mark André and Hèctor Parra.
From 2007 - 2010 he taught electroacoustic com-position and conducting at the HfMDK Frankfurt/M., in 2010/11 he was guest lecturer for contemporary music at the Kunstuni Graz.
He has received scholarships from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, the Heinrich-Strobel-Stiftung (SWR) and the DAAD. He has also received composition prizes such as the Scholarship Prize of the Darmstadt Summer Courses in 2002, the Prize of the Ensemblia Mönchengladbach in 2003, the 1st Composition Prize of the Krefelder Tage Neue Musik in 2013 and was a prizewinner of the Karlsruhe Composition Competition in 2014. Invitations to the 7th Young Talent Forum of the Ensemble Modern 2004 and to the Tremplin 2006/07 of the Ensemble Intercontemporain and IRCAM.
His works have been performed all over the world, by well known ensembles and he has worked with reknown performers.
He's also worked for radio and television productions with BR, DLF, HR, SWR, WDR, ZDF info and Radio France.
Since 2011 the compositions of Matthias S. Krüger are published by BabelScores Paris and Simon Verlag Berlin.
Matthias S. Krüger lives as a freelance musician with his wife and son in Lörrach near Basel in southern Baden.
