Manuel Lipstein

Manuel Lipstein is already one of the most exciting young composers. The German-Argentine cellist and composer is at home on the world stages: his travels take him not only across Europe, but also to countries such as Japan, China and Armenia. He performs in the most renowned halls, including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Beijing Concert Hall, the Kölner Philharmonie and the Herkulessaal Munich.
Since September 2019 Manuel Lipstein has been studying as a young soloist at the Kronberg Academy with Prof. Frans Helmerson. The study is made possible by the Dr. Rainer and Christel Stoll scholarship.
Already in 2011, at the age of only ten, he became a young student with Prof. Katharina Deserno at the Musikhochschule Köln, where he continued his studies with Prof. Maria Kliegel from 2015 to 2019.
Further inspiration comes from master classes with great masters such as Mischa Maisky, Martha Argerich, Leonid Gorokhov, Wolfgang-Emanuel Schmidt, Ralph Kirshbaum, Ivry Gitlis and Jan Vogler.
As a soloist he has played with the WDR Symphony Orchestra and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, among others, and regularly performs chamber music with his brother and pianist Rafael Lipstein. The Duo Lipstein was named Best of NRW ensemble and is celebrated by the press as an exceptional duo.
Manuel Lipstein has already won numerous national and international competitions: he received the Premier Grand Prix at the Concours Flame in Paris, the first prize and special prize at the Concours de Violoncelle Prix Edmond Baert in Brussels and was awarded the WDR 3 Klassikpreis der Stadt Münster. He has also won prizes at the Antonio Janigro Competition in Croatia and at the Karl-Friedrich-Dotzauer-Wettbewerb in Dresden. A particular success: As the youngest participant ever he became a finalist at the TONALi18 Music Competition in Hamburg, received third prize and was accepted into the TONALiSTEN agency.
Manuel Lipstein has appeared as a composer at the AchtBrücken-Festival in Cologne and at the Aurora-Festival in Sweden. For his compositions he has already received several state and federal prizes at Jugend Komponiert as well as a special WESPE prize. His work Zwei Szenen für Blockflöte Solo was nominated for the compulsory piece of the ERPS competition in Bozen and is published by Edition Walhall. He also writes a composition for the project 250 pieces for Beethoven.
Manuel Lipstein stands out through his multi-faceted appearances at the highest level: He reinterprets the classics of the concert repertoire in an inspiring way and creates his concerts in a refreshingly varied way through his commitment to both early and contemporary music. His choice of special concert venues, e.g. the MS Stubnitz in Hamburg harbour, and his extraordinary chamber music partners, e.g. Japanese koto players, have caused a sensation.
Manuel Lipstein rounds off his musical activities by conducting and teaching violoncello and music theory.
