Louis Sauter

Home / Composers / Louis Sauter

Louis Sauter was born in the USA but has lived most of his life in France. He is both a musician and a communications engineer, and began his career doing research in signal processing and multimedia, before evolving towards management and consulting. His engineering work has at times been in the area of music, most notably within the Scientific Committee of the IRCAM and as a consultant for a national Opera House.
A mostly self-taught musician, he nevertheless benefited from advice from great musicians. He met Olivier Messiaen several times, and sharply remembers a musical analysis class where the master focused on the Rite of Spring.
As a pianist, he especially enjoys playing chamber music and accompanying singers. As a tenor in the Pasdeloup and Orchestre Colonne Choirs, he sang in Salle Pleyel, the Chartres Cathedral and the Palais Omnisports de Bercy (an audience of over 13,000 people) as well as for French Television and several CDs.
He has composed over fifty works for solo instruments, for voice, for chamber ensembles and symphonic orchestras. His compositions have been performed internationally.
