Julian Lembke

studied composition (Prof. Martin Christoph Redel), drums (Prof. Peter Prommel) and music theory (Prof. André Stark) at the Detmold University of Music. He then completed a master's degree at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in the classes of Gérard Pesson (composition), Marc-André Dalbavie (orchestration) and Michaёl Levinas (analysis). His works, which include chamber music, orchestral pieces and musical theater, are regularly performed at home and abroad. He has received composition commissions from Theater Halberstadt, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Opéra Bastille, Emsemble Horizonte, Ensemble Eutopia, Musik21Niedersachsen and the Gerassimez brothers, among others. Julian Lembke has received numerous awards, including the Prix Alain Louvier 2015, the Günther Bialas Prize 2013, the German Music Competition 2011 and the John Cage Prize 2010. Since 2008 he has been working more and more on stage and music theater, including the short chamber opera Rose: rot. Nachtigall: tot (Libretto: Andreas Bisowski) based on Oscar Wilde, which premiered in 2011 at the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater, the 20-minute opera error_403_verboten (libretto by Peter Schanz, premiered in 2011 at the opera school of the Detmold University of Music), and the chamber opera project Maudits les Innocents based on a libretto by Laurent Gaudé, written for the Opéra Bastille in 2014. He is currently working on the music theater project Inéru (text by Eléonore Dupraz), which will be premiered in 2016 in cooperation with the Association Réponses XX-XXI at the Acker-Stadt-Palast in Berlin. Julian Lembke is a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation, the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris and the Fondation de France. He lives in Paris.
