Mr Sistermanns was born in Cologne, studied rhythmics (Prof. Holmrike Leiser), piano/piano improvisation (Klaus Runze) and composition/new music theater (Prof. Mauricio Kagel) in Cologne. Examination as music teacher 1981, New Music Theater 1984, doctorate in musicology 1989 (Prof. H.C. Schmidt, University of Osnabrück).
Since 1984 he has been working as a freelancer, realizing his multi-media compositions in multi-channel electroacoustics (2-2004 loudspeakers), media/electroacoustics, radiophonic audio play, music theater, KlangPlastik, performance and urban environment.
Lived temporarily in Paris, North India, Japan and Australia. Performed worldwide (e.g. 2000 EXPO World Exhibition Hannover, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Knitting Factory/EAMF New York, Melbourne Festival '97, MOFO Hobart/Tasmania, Internationale Ferienkurse Neue Musik Darmstadt, ISCM World New Music Festival Australia, Switzerland, Germany, radio stations (WDR, HR,DLF, SWR, SR, ORF, ABC Radio Sydney).
International scholarships, residencies and prizes, among others the DEUTSCHER KLANGKUNST-PREIS 2008 (WDR, Skulpturenmuseum Marl, Initiative Hören), Karl-Sczuka-Förderpreis SWR, winner of the Prix PRESQUE RIEN 2015 [Luc Ferrari] Paris, 1st prize 'Leibniz Harmonien' in the international composition competition Hannover. Guest lectures, seminars and workshops in Singapore, Tokyo, Paris, Kyoto, Rome, Osaka, Adelaide, Jeju (Korea), New York, Bucharest, Melbourne, Zurich, Seatle, Beijing, Sydney, Hong Kong, Tallinn, among others.
