Ivan Sokolov was born in Moscow. In 1983 he graduated from the conservatory as a pianist (with Lev Naumov) and as a composer (with Nikolai Sidelnikov).
He has been teaching at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory since 1988 and has lived both in Germany and Moscow since 1995.
He has composed many works for piano, including chamber music, more than 200 romances, music for percussion ensemble, etc.
