Born in Bucharest (Romania) in 1959 and living in Germany since 1973, the composer and conductor HORST-HANS BÄCKER received his first piano lessons at the age of 5. He received his first composition lessons from Prof. Ludwig Werner Weiand. At the Mozarteum he continued his composition lessons with Prof. Gyula Horvath and graduated in composition in Cologne with Prof. Jürg Baur. With his composition AUS DER TIEFE RUF ICH, HERR, ZU DIR, Bäcker was a prizewinner at the DE PROFUNDIS composition competition in Cologne.
He studied conducting with the professors: Kurt Prestel, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Jorma Panula.
Bäcker founded the SALZBURGER VOKAL-ENSEMBLE and the Symphony Orchestra INTERNATIONAL PHILHARMONY. Horst-Hans Bäcker is permanent guest conductor with the Romanian State Philharmonic Orchestra in Arad, Oltenia in Craiova and Banat in Timisoara. He was commissioned by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Timisoara to compose and perform a work for choir and orchestra, RAPSODIA TIMISOREANA, on the occasion ofthe celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Romanian State Philharmonic Orchestra. Horst-Hans Bäcker conducts orchestras in Europe, Brazil and the Philippines. His first CD SPANISH NIGHT was released in 1999 and was enthusiastically received by the critics, as was the following CD SPANISH NIGHT II, which includes his own work for orchestra RAPSODIA MALLORQUINA. This was followed by the CD BERÜHMTE OPERNARIEN - PANFLÖTE und ORCHESTER with the soloist Gheorghe Zamfir and the CD ZauberPANflöte with the panflutist Matthias Schlubeck. Becker's arrangements for choir and orchestra of works by some bands such as Beatles, Queen, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Supertramp and others, have been performed several times in sold-out concerts, some of them open air concerts with more than 25.000 enthusiastic listeners, also with the positive effect of inspiring young people for choir with symphony orchestra.
Since 2016 Horst-Hans Bäcker lives in Cagayan de Oro (Philippines). He is Professor of Composition and Orchestra/Choir Conducting and Associate Dean of the Conservatory of Music, Theatre and Dance at the LICEO DE CAGAYAN University.
