Hermann Dechant, born in Vienna, graduated with top grades in flute, conducting, composition, musicology and art history (Dr. Phil.).
From 1960 to 1973 he was principal flutist of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.
In 1968 he was involved in the founding and organization of the Bundesjugendorchester.
From 1973 Dechant taught conducting and orchestral playing (professor) at the University of Music in Würzburg.
From 1985-1999 he was director of the Bamberg Oratorio Choir.
Dechant also held guest professorships at the Universities of Music in Linz (Austria) and Bangkok (Thailand). He has received several awards for his work, and in 2000 the Russian Federation appointed him honorary professor. Dechantal's chamber musician, conductor and lecturer has performed in 77 countries.
conducting from Lutz Herbig. As a composer he furthermore followed masterclasses from, among others, Isang Yun, George Crumb, Jan van Vlijmen, Marek Stachowski, Zbigniew Bojarski and Gerard Brophy.
