Bernfried E. G. Proeve studied from 1982-86 Schulmusik (school music), composition and music theory at the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK) with Isang Yun, Witold Szalonek, Lothar Broddack, piano and Rudolf Heinemann, church organ.
He continued his study in advanced music theory, at the Academy of Music in Freiburg and later on at the Film Academy Baden- Württemberg.
In 1994 he received a scholarships for the famous Villa Massimo Rom. 1995-96 he continued his studies at the Sorbonne and the Centre Georges Pompidou, on the field of musicology.
Since 1996 he has been teaching u.a. Faculté de musique de l'Université de Montreal, at the Young-Nam University Dae-Gu, South Korea, and the Conservatory of Genoa, Italy.
He has received a number of awards and since 2000 he has been working as a producer and lecturer in music theory, composition, and piano at the Academy Musisches, Braunschweig.
He has numerous publications, like work and effect (1992), The composer Isang Yun (Bote & Bock, 1993) and others.
