Born in São Paulo in 1952, Amaral Vieira is one of the most versatile and complete Brazilian musicians of his generation.
After musical studies in Brazil with Souza Lima and Arthur Hartmann, he joined the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Paris where he was mentored by Lucette Descaves and Olivier Messiaen. Graduated from the University of Music in Freiburg, Germany, Vieira was invited by the British Council to perfect his knowledge in London with the Hungarian pianist Louis Kentner.
His phonographic achievements, as a composer and/or performer, count more than 120 titles (published in LPs, Cassettes and CDs), presenting a vast repertoire (with particular emphasis on Liszt) which includes his own compositions, which exceed 500 works. These recordings are being distributed in Brazil, Europe, Japan and the United States.
He received numerous distinctions: 10 awards as a pianist, 17 as a composer, and more than 50 in recognition of his artistic work in Brazil, France, Germany, England, Hungary and Japan. Amaral Vieira received the title of Professor Emeritus from the Soka University of Japan.
He held the presidency of the Brazilian Society of Musicology in the triennium 1993/1995, and in 1998 the composer took office of the Presidency of the Brazilian Society of Contemporary Music, having finished his term in December 2001. He was President of the Dramatic and Musical Conservatory Foundation of São Paulo from 2001 to 2008.
He is responsible for the program of sacred music Laudate Dominum, which is broadcasted by Radio Cultura FM of Sao Paulo and the Radio Sodre of Montevideo, Uruguay.
Besides Brazil, his concert tours have included almost all countries of Europe, South America, Middle East, China, Japan and Taiwan.
The artist was granted the 2008 Golden Laurel Award by The Delian Society of the United States of America, for the collection of his work. This prize is awarded once a year to a single living composer of the world among those nominated by the members of the society and, the final choice is ratified by an international commission.
In October/November 2013, he held his tenth tour in Japan, therefore reaching in Japan only, since 1994, the amazing mark of 283 concerts in more than 220 cities.
